Foundations & Capabilities
Build the minimum enterprise capabilities needed to move selected opportunities toward reliable production.
Build the foundations for sustained AI transformation. Connect leadership, data, delivery practices, human capability and governance to the gaps revealed by early work.

Foundations & Capabilities strengthens the minimum enterprise conditions needed to carry selected opportunities beyond isolated experimentation. Foundations develop alongside active pilots: real work reveals which data, integration, assurance, delivery and human capabilities need attention. The aim is sufficient repeatability and operational confidence for controlled production.
Make business and outcome ownership, delivery, technical and data accountability, release authority and escalation routes explicit. Establish risk-based guardrails and evidence requirements proportionate to the use case. Strengthen critical sources, permissions, quality, interfaces and context around priority work. Shared capabilities are useful when they reduce repeated effort and create a dependable path to production.
Extend practical enablement through champions, stewards, coaching or communities where the context needs them. Introduce clear outcome hypotheses, baselines or comparison evidence and measurement ownership so technical progress can inform continue, change or stop decisions. Readiness includes operational, technical, human and governance conditions together.
Evidence to make visible
- Named ownership, decision routes and minimum guardrails
- Trusted data and integration foundations for priority work
- Delivery readiness and explicit outcome-measurement logic
Decisions to make explicit
- Which minimum foundations must be strengthened for the selected work?
- Who owns the relevant outcomes, decisions, evidence and operating responsibilities?
- Do selected solutions have enough readiness to enter controlled production?
The question to examine
Can selected solutions enter controlled production with sufficient operational, technical, human and governance readiness?
Avoid these misreadings
- Foundations do not require completing an enterprise-wide architecture before learning through real work.
- More pilot activity does not compensate for unclear ownership, weak assurance or missing outcome evidence.
Use all six dimensions.
Examine the same enterprise situation through Alignment, Impact, Data, Integration, Values and Ethics. The phase describes the dominant context; individual capabilities and value streams can develop unevenly.
