The Strategy Layer
Convert enterprise strategy into an approved operating envelope for AI, with direction, boundaries and human accountability.
At the Strategy layer, connect AI transformation to enterprise direction, outcomes and boundaries. Use operational evidence to revisit strategic assumptions and choices.
Explore the holistic AIDIVE frameworkWhy it matters
A shared direction helps the enterprise choose where AI should contribute, which commitments it can support and which actions remain outside its boundaries.
Inherit strategic intent
The layer receives the approved AI North Star, Strategic Value Intent, Enterprise Risk Appetite, Autonomy Appetite and strategic guardrails. It does not create a separate AI strategy or manage daily delivery.
Operate strategic decisions
The Board retains enterprise accountability for direction and oversight. Executive and relevant enterprise roles prepare decision-quality evidence, frame trade-offs and operate the portfolio interface. Strategy conversations include AI North Star Direction Planning, AI Risk & Autonomy Appetite Planning, and Quarterly Strategy, OKR & Roadmap Reframing.
Escalate material changes
A proposal that exceeds Autonomy Appetite, conflicts with guardrails, materially changes enterprise exposure or requires a new intent decision reaches the approved authority. Material regulatory, loss-of-control, delegation or exposure changes can trigger an out-of-cycle review.
- Send approved intent and constraints to Portfolio.
- Receive outcome, capacity, risk, adoption and capability evidence.
- Record decisions, exceptions, review conditions and accountable owners.
Evidence to make visible
- A strategy operating brief with decision provenance
- An enterprise exception record
- A portfolio mandate
