Why it matters

An AI recommendation creates little operating value if no authorized role can use it, no action follows or the result cannot be reconstructed.

Design the decision and action seam

Describe what is decided, what AI may contribute, who holds authority, what evidence is needed and which actions remain prohibited or non-delegable. A product or workflow can contain several differently configured seams.

Specify intervention and safe state

Make approval, supervision, escalation, handback and takeover operational. State what the person needs to see, their authority, the time available, the activity that waits and the response if the human path is unavailable.

Retain a reviewable operating record

Connect relevant inputs, authoritative sources, policy and configuration versions, acting identities, material tool calls, human decisions and outcomes. Reconstructability needs interpretable evidence of what occurred and under whose authority; it does not require internal model reasoning.
