Agent and Service Lifecycle Governance

Keep purpose, ownership, authorization and evidence current from creation through final retirement.

CONNECT THIS TOPIC TO AI TRANSFORMATION

Manage AI agents and services throughout their lifecycle. Connect introduction, evaluation, change, recovery and retirement to named owners and enterprise transformation outcomes.

Why it matters

An agent can remain technically available after its purpose, owner or permission has expired. Lifecycle governance connects operating rights to a valid service state.

Seven lifecycle states

Each state has control requirements, evidence and named owners.

  • Create and register — record purpose, ownership, risk, identity, tools, data, authority, human control, limits and planned expiry.
  • Validate — test quality, misuse, security, Data controls, intervention, evidence, rollback and delegation restrictions.
  • Deploy — use scoped identity, connected controls and staged rollout.
  • Monitor and attest — review outcomes, permissions, cost, drift, incidents, delegation, ownership and continued purpose.
  • Change — reassess material changes and repeat affected evaluation, assurance and approval.
  • Suspend or revoke — disable execution, credentials and downstream delegation while preserving investigation and recovery evidence.
  • Retire — terminate access, endpoints, schedules and delegation; finalize registry state and required evidence retention.

Assign complementary ownership

The named business, product or service owner owns the approved purpose and outcome responsibilities. The AI Product Team owns implementation and live-service operation. The AI Platform Team operates identity, registry, runtime and technical revocation. Policy, Data, security and assurance roles define and test their controls.

Treat retirement as an operating result

Retirement is complete when execution and delegation are disabled, registry state is final and required evidence remains accessible under applicable retention rules. Address retained data and communicate service closure or replacement.

Evidence to make visible

  • A current registry and lifecycle record
  • Evaluation, deployment, change and attestation evidence
  • Revocation confirmation and a completed retirement record
