The Enterprise AI Control Plane

Provide shared technical enforcement for agent identity, registration, permissions, runtime policy, evidence, limits and intervention.

CONNECT THIS TOPIC TO AI TRANSFORMATION

Connect enterprise AI oversight to operational evidence. Examine the control-plane responsibilities needed to observe, govern and intervene in AI-enabled services.

Why it matters

Approved controls need reliable implementation at the point where an agent reads data, invokes a tool or changes a system.

Operate shared technical capabilities

The AI Platform Team mainly operates the control plane. The AI Policy & Guardrails Forum supplies applicable control intent and implementation guidance within its mandate. Business, service, release, exception and risk authorities retain their assigned responsibilities.

  • Identity and authentication.
  • Agent and tool registry.
  • Runtime policy and data controls.
  • Tool, API and delegation gateway.
  • Telemetry, evidence and cost.
  • Golden-path deployment.
  • Intervention and recovery.

Enforce the authorized boundary

Validate acting identity, declared purpose, target, tool schema, resource rules, action, approval state, scope, limits and expiry. Downscope delegated authority where required and prevent unauthorized re-delegation. Platform defaults implement approved requirements; they do not create business authority.

Keep controls available outside agent discretion

Rate and action limits, circuit breakers, pause and kill controls, degraded modes, rollback and credential revocation support containment. Named incident, service, release or risk authorities decide remediation, restart and authority restoration through the applicable operating model.

Evidence to make visible

  • Registered purpose, ownership, identity and lifecycle state
  • Policy-enforced data, tool and delegation boundaries
  • Correlated evidence and tested intervention controls
